Sun and storms forecast for Guangdong over coming days

The China Meteorological Administration (CMA) has sounded the alarm today, issuing a series of weather warnings that include an Orange Alert for scorching temperatures, a Yellow Alert for intense rainfall, a Blue Alert for severe convective weather, and another Blue Alert for gale-force winds, urging the public to brace themselves for the incoming weather patterns.

Focusing on Guangzhou, the city's Yuexiu and Tianhe districts are set to be hit by thunderstorms from midday until the afternoon of August 26. These localized storms are expected to bring heavy rainfall, accompanied by gusts of wind reaching up to 6-7 on the Beaufort scale and frequent lightning flashes. Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and take appropriate precautions to protect themselves from potentially hazardous conditions.

Since August 25, Guangzhou has been under the influence of the subtropical high anticyclone circulation, resulting in a mix of cloudy skies and scattered showers. Although the weather will continue to feel muggy, forecasters anticipate a subtle shift towards more unstable conditions as the subtropical high weakens, with an increase in rainfall activity forecasted for August 28-30.

In light of these unpredictable weather conditions, the Guangzhou Meteorological Bureau and Emergency Management Departments have issued the following guidance:

Geological Hazards Prevention: Following the recent heavy rainfall, soil moisture levels are elevated, increasing the risk of delayed geological disasters. Residents are urged to stay alert and prepare for potential secondary hazards.

Heatstroke Prevention: As the weather intensifies its sultry nature, the public is encouraged to take proactive steps to prevent heatstroke and maintain proper hydration.

Rain Gear Recommendation: Given the likelihood of afternoon thunderstorms, it is advisable for citizens to carry rain gear when venturing outdoors, which can double up as both a sunshade and protection from the rain.
