Canton Fair: 'Designed in Guangdong' drives brands to go global

From a multifunctional vegetable basket to a new energy vehicle, this year's Canton Fair showcases how industrial design is enhancing product innovation, supporting brand elevation, and facilitating global expansion with high-end and intelligent features.

How does designing homes overlap with cars and smartphones? Yao Sa, Vice President of Foshan Apicool Electric Appliance Co., Ltd., explained that at Apicool, such cross-industry learning is routine. "Especially with cars, both vehicles and houses are outdoor products, so we often look to one field to inform the other." The mobile housing model presented at the Canton Fair this year, for example, drew design inspiration from new energy vehicles.

For Foshan Milang Industrial Design Co., Ltd. (Milang Industrial), incorporating Chinese aesthetics into ergonomic chairs is a key focus. Designer Luo Chenlu shared that they fused traditional architectural art with modern office chairs, creating a three-part modular design for the lumbar, back, and head support that enables easy assembly and disassembly, saving time and reducing packaging volume. This kind of chair combines aesthetics with functionality to meet practical demands.

As a regular exhibitor at the Canton Fair, Milang Industrial values the connections it has cultivated there. Luo mentioned that while most of their current exports go to Europe, the fair has introduced them to clients from the Middle East, Russia, and beyond, enhancing their brand's global presence and resulting in numerous new orders.
