On May 1, Helen, a teacher from Belarus, made her way to Chashan Town in Dongguan to fully experience the "Dongguan Tea Garden Festival." Helen transformed herself into Daomadan(刀马旦), a character from Cantonese opera, specifically taking on the role of a knife-wielding female character, as she learned the parade movements of the traditional blessing procession from local professional performers.
With great enthusiasm, Helen actively participated in the 1.5-kilometer parade, becoming an integral part of the vibrant procession. This captivating cultural event, seamlessly blending time-honored traditions with a contemporary flair and offering a unique perspective on local customs from a foreign lens, truly showcased the mesmerizing charm and cultural diversity of the Dongguan Tea Garden Festival.
