World's only 11,000-meter ocean drillship tested in Nansha

China's first domestically developed ultra-deepwater ocean drilling ship, named "Mengxiang" (Dream), recently entered the debugging and interior installation phase in Nansha, Guangzhou, with an expected completion within 2024, according to the China Geological Survey.

The "Mengxiang" has a displacement of 33,000 tons and is capable of operating continuously at sea for 120 days with a full complement of 180 crew members, boasting a cruising range of 15,000 nautical miles.

Additionally, with 1.2 million meters of cables, the vessel comprehensively incorporates advanced information technology to achieve seamless ship-shore intelligent collaboration. This not only equips the vessel with the capability to navigate in global waters but also establishes it as the only vessel in the world capable of drilling up to 11,000 meters deep.

In the future, the "Mengxiang" will primarily undertake China's significant scientific and technological projects and fulfill international ocean scientific drilling missions.
