Experts and artists share insights into fostering development of art and literature at forum in Shenzhen

The Forum on Building up China's Cultural Strength 2024 is held in Shenzhen, Guangdong, from May 23 to 24. Experts and artists shared insight into fostering development of art and literature at its Sub-Forum on Fostering Development of Art and Literature on May 24. With a grass-root perspective and a global artistic atmosphere, guests opened up in-depth dialogues,  giving rise to different views in four major fields, including literature, stage arts, TV drama and cyber-art.

Chi Zijian, Chairman of Heilongjiang Writers Association, shared her experience as a local novelist which spans 40 years. Coming from a humble village in North China's Heilongjiang Province, Chi noted all her inspiration was drawn from her life and encouraged young writers to keep being passionate about their lives. For Chinese artists that come from different regions of China, they have a lot to delve into their own soil and render that in their narratives. She also hopes more young writers let their work seen globally. "Cultural exchange is an integral task of building a culturally powerful nation. A fresh side of China, with its confidence and self-empowerment in art and literature, should be seen by the world," said Chi.

In the field of stage art, Wang Yong, Vice Chairman of the China Theatre Association, pointed out the overuse of technology in production has started to compromise the work. "There are specific rules to follow in literature and art, and only by following these rules can the works stand the test of time. We refrain from formal innovation without considering the content," said Wang.

Gao Changli, Director of the TV Drama Department of the National Radio and Television Administration, spoke of the recipe to making TV dramas that resonate with the general public. "A team behind any TV drama should delve right into people's life and build the connection with these people," said Gao.
