Director of the Guangdong Museum of Art: Bai'etan Venue presents unprecedented scale bringing more challenges and opportunities

The Greater Bay Area Art Center near the Bai'etan (White Goose Pool), integrating the Guangdong Museum of Art, Guangdong Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Center, and Guangdong Literature Museum, will open to the public for free starting May 1st. To mark the opening, the Guangdong Museum of Art has planned a series of large-scale exhibitions, bringing together nearly a thousand masterpieces from home and abroad, making it the largest art exhibition in Guangdong's history.

As a significant part of the art center, the completion and opening of the Guangdong Museum of Art's Bai'etan Venue represents a milestone in the development of Guangdong's art. It will provide a better platform and broader space for high-quality art development in the region.

In a recent interview with the Yangcheng Evening News, Wang Shaoqiang, Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Artists Association and Director of the Guangdong Museum of Art, stated that since its establishment in 1997, the Guangdong Museum of Art has continuously enriched its collection, conducted historical research on Lingnan and national modern and contemporary art development, actively participated in the construction and development of Chinese contemporary art with an open attitude and a high level of academic expertise. It has also built influential contemporary art presentation and exchange platforms on an international scale.

Wang Shaoqiang believes that the opening of the Bai'etan Greater Bay Area Art Center will bring new development space and opportunities for the Guangdong Museum of Art.

In terms of its overall layout, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area boasts unique Lingnan cultural heritages, unparalleled geographical advantages, robust economic strength, and industrial foundations. Leveraging these advantages, the Bai'etan Greater Bay Area Art Center will integrate the three major venues into the urban cultural context, coexist harmoniously with the surrounding environment, and jointly create an "urban cultural and artistic salon." As one of them, the Guangdong Museum of Art is the largest diversified art center in the Greater Bay Area. Consequently, the Guangdong Museum of Art will undergo new upgrades in exhibition quality, public service concepts, and facilities to provide higher-quality services for citizens and visitors.

In terms of scale, the new venue's public service space has doubled compared to before, reaching nearly 150,000 square meters. The venue will provide a more comfortable exhibition environment for audiences. It is believed that this will better meet the growing cultural and artistic demands and the public's expectations for high-quality art exhibitions. With the expanded building area, the new venue not only gains more exhibition space but also adds more public education spaces, research spaces, and supporting facilities, making the museum's functions more comprehensive. In this way, the museum can better serve the general public and art enthusiasts.

In terms of academic positioning, today's contemporary art development presents characteristics of diversification, cross-media, digitization, and socialization. The Guangdong Museum of Art, located in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, will broaden its academic perspective, connect with the world, and accelerate the process of synchronizing with the international community.
