As one of Asia's leading platforms for animation and cultural exchange, the Niigata International Animation Film Festival is being held from March 15 to 20 in Niigata, Japan, featuring 69 animated films from 28 countries.
"China and Japan have many similarities in culture, which is reflected in similar storytelling in animation. I hope the screening can be an opportunity to strengthen industry ties, foster collaboration, and introduce global audiences to the richness of Chinese culture," said Cui Weilei, China's Consul General in Niigata at the event.
Initially premiered in China in July 2024, Into The Mortal World has since earned a strong rating of 7.8 out of 10 on Douban, China's film review platform known for its discerning audience.

The film follows a celestial being who descends to Earth and then accidentally finds his lost sister, with whom he experiences complex human emotions and struggles. As the protagonists navigate love, betrayal, and self-discovery, the film immerses viewers in a fascinating world of Chinese star constellation mythology, which blends ancient cultural symbols with stunning animation to offer a captivating, otherworldly experience.
At the screening, an industry insider noted the film's emotional power, comparing its sibling bond to the "Kizuna" theme in Japanese animation. "Its portrayal of kinship and duty transcends language and resonates with me deeply."
Another viewer, a university professor, praised the film’s stunning visuals. "The celestial palaces shrouded in mist, the dazzling constellations—all of these made the animation like a moving Chinese painting, and every still is a masterpiece," the professor said.
Since its global release in August 2024, Into The Mortal World has been screened in 40 countries and regions, including Singapore, Australia, Thailand, and more.
