During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, the newly upgraded south exhibition area of Bird's Paradise at Guangzhou Zoo officially opened.
Stepping into the area immerses visitors in a forest world, home to rare birds including the Crested Ibis, Black Stork, and Great Hornbill.
The Blue-and-yellow Macaw shines with feathers as beautiful as colored glaze, resembling a moving gemstone.
The Toco Toucan, with its huge orange beak, may appear bulky and heavy, but its beak is actually lightweight and serves as an excellent tool for heat dissipation and temperature regulation.
The Crested Ibis, an elegant bird with purely white plumage, boasts striking red accents on its cheeks, the base of its beak, and its feet. Its crimson wings are a sight to behold, earning it the title "the Oriental gem." This endangered species and first-class nationally protected animal is often referred to as the "panda of the bird world."
The exhibition also features a native wetland animal area that simulates the natural habitats of birds, with perches, greenery, and flowing water to create an immersive bird-watching experience. Surrounding the exhibition are displays of scientific information about various birds.
In addition to the new exhibition area, Guangzhou Zoo will host a series of events from May 31 to June 2, including a birthday party for the chimpanzee "Little Zongzi," guided tours of baby animals, and science-themed checkpoints.
The chimpanzee "Little Zongzi," born during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday in 2023, will celebrate her second birthday. The zoo will throw her a birthday bash featuring exclusive and rich content to share her growing story.
Visitors can learn about newborn animals during the guided tours, including seven jackal cubs who like to sleep and play together, sibling golden snub-nosed monkeys grooming each other, and a baby Ruddy Shelduck learning to swim with its parents. Professional guides will introduce visitors to the cute newborn animals and reveal their interesting habits and behaviors.
