Instead of sitting in an air-conditioned room to binge-watch shows and movies, those who struggle with the summer heat actually have an alternative option: having fun with ice and snow. In this guide, we present nearby destinations where you can enjoy yourself while keeping cool.

Karoo Ice and Snow World

Situated in the Mission Hills Sports & Eco Park in Longhua District, Karoo Ice and Snow World is a must-visit destination for winter sports enthusiasts since its opening in March 2023.

Covering an area of 12,000 square meters, the ice and snow park features an indoor ski hall, an ice-skating hall and a comprehensive service hall.

With a unique design resembling two white capsules, the park features replicas of world famous landmarks such as the Jungfraujoch Sphinx Observatory in Switzerland, St. Mark’s Bell Tower in Italy’s Venice, and Hunter House in Finland, creating a fairy tale village. Visitors will encounter Kaka and Lulu, the adorable mascots, upon entering the park.

The indoor ski hall boasts an expansive ski track measuring 100 meters in length and 20 meters in width, with a starting platform at 10 meters high, accessible via an electric “magic carpet.” The temperature is consistently maintained between minus 3 and minus 5 degrees Celsius. In addition to skiing, the resort features various ice and snow activities for recreation.

The 4,000-square-meter skating hall features an impressive 1,560 square meters of ice surface that meets the competition requirements of National Hockey League (NHL) in North America. Equipped with large LED screens and a state-of-the-art audio system, the venue can host professional training and competitions of ice hockey, figure skating and speed skating.

There are service centers, medical rooms, changing rooms, catering service areas, souvenir shops and ski classrooms in the comprehensive service hall.
