Guangzhou Railway Group to serve a passenger flow peak during Qingming holiday

Qingming Festival falls on April 4, and the transportation period for this traditional Chinese holiday ranges from April 3 to April 7, lasting for five days. During this period, Guangzhou Railway Group is expected to transport 10.6 million passengers, an increase of 843,000 passengers compared to the same period in 2019, up 8.6 percent, with an average of 2.12 million passengers per day, marking a passenger flow peak on record. The peak of passenger traffic will come on April 4 when 2.5 million passengers are expected to travel.

According to a staff member of Guangzhou Railway Group, most passengers traveling during this holiday plan to sweep tombs in short-distance destinations or go on outings. In the early period of the holiday, the passengers mainly travel from big cities such as Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Changsha to the surrounding towns and provinces, and they return at the end of the holiday.

In order to meet the travel needs of passengers as much as possible, during the Qingming Festival transportation period, an additional 886 trains will be operated to Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Wuhan, Hangzhou, and other destinations, including 562 electric multiple unit (EMU) trains and 324 regular trains. Meanwhile, there will be 75 additional high-speed trains running from the night of April 3 to the morning of April 4, and 73 running from the night of April 6 to the morning of April 7 to ensure the travel demand of passengers during the peak period.
