2023 Guangdong Legislative Session to convene from January 12 to 16

The annual session of Guangdong People's Congress, the province’s legislative body, will be held from January 12 to January 16, according to a press conference held on January 9.

The government work report which summarizes the economic and social achievement of Guangdong over the past 5 years while outlining the targets next year will be delivered at the panel. The annual work reports of the standing committee of Guangdong's Provincial People’s Congress, People’s court of Guangdong, People's procuratorate of Guangdong will also be delivered.

A total number of 793 deputies are elected from the 21 municipalities and army of Guangdong to participate in the event. Apart from government officials, the deputies come from all walks of life and widely represent different genders, social sectors and ethnic groups.

The deputies will deliberate the work reports and elect a new governor as well as heads of both disciplinary and justice bodies of Guangdong at the meeting. Deputies to the 14th National People’s Congress will also be elected, which will start on March 5 in Beijing.

In addition, the deputies will also shed light on major social and economic issues, and have the right to submit motions which will be legally binding once adopted through voting.

A "deputies’ channel" interview session, will be held on the afternoon of January 14, during which the deputies will answer question on such topics as whole-process people democracy, manufacturing development, technological innovation and green development.
