On September 20, the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin established its semiconductor industry association. It aims to promote cooperation among the government, enterprises, universities, and research institutions, and further accelerate the development of the semiconductor industry in Hengqin.
The association is a non-profit organization with 54 members engaged in the production, design, scientific research, development, application, teaching, and investment of integrated circuits, semiconductor discrete devices, semiconductor materials and equipment.
Su Kun, Deputy Director of the Executive Committee of the Zone, expressed that the association could serve as a cooperation platform for information sharing, business partnership, and experience exchange in the semiconductor industry, to promote resource sharing, complementary advantages, and win-win cooperation among the members.
Macao has the National Key Laboratory of Integrated Circuits, which has achieved remarkable research results in recent years. In the future, it will keep playing its role as a window for international cooperation and to boost the development of the integrated circuit industry, said Tai Kin Ip, Director of Macao SAR's Economic and Technological Development Bureau.
Since the establishment of the cooperation zone, Hengqin has focused on developing its four major industries, including sci-tech research and high-end manufacturing. As of the end of 2022, the total revenue of integrated circuit companies above the designated size in Hengqin reached 2.69 billion RMB, with a year-on-year increase of 20.8%. And it has attracted more than 40 relevant companies to operate in the zone.
