As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, Guangzhou is set to launch nearly a thousand cultural and tourism activities, inviting residents and tourists to indulge in the city during the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday.

Theme activities to celebrate reunion

During the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, the 2024 Guangzhou Mid-Autumn Festival Theme Cultural Event will invite hundreds of couples and families of golden wedding, silver wedding, and newly married couples, as well as representatives of civilized families and distinctive families from home and abroad to gather in Guangzhou to celebrate the festival together.

The Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area is set to unveil the Mid-Autumn Festival theme activities, featuring a concert, a handicraft area, a lantern area, an ancient-style area, and an exhibition area. The Double Festival Market, Coffee Feast, and Interesting Treasures on Moxing Summit will also officially commence during the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday.

In the Baiyun Mountain Sculpture Park, a family-themed event will kick off on September 16th. Yuexiu Park will host a characteristic market garden activity centered around the ancient city wall, designed with a "long street" layout and infused with the charm of Guangfu culture. Residents and tourists can stroll along the ancient city wall, explore the market, and enjoy a leisurely life.

Additionally, there will also be the 2024 Mid-Autumn Festival Lantern Show in Guangzhou Cultural Park, the Mid-Autumn Festival Intangible Cultural Heritage Garden Activity of "Elegant Orchid Garden" in Lanpu Garden, the Mid-Autumn Festival Music Pavilion Event in People's Park, and the Mid-Autumn Festival Themed Lantern Show and Science Popularization Activity of Intangible Cultural Heritage Handicraft in Pearl River Park, etc.

Cultural and museum venues for a festive gathering

During the holiday, the cultural and museum venues in Guangzhou will serve as a gateway to understanding the traditional customs of the Mid-Autumn Festival. The Guangzhou Museum's Zhenhai Tower exhibition area will introduce a Mid-Autumn sachet-making activity, while the Nanyue King Museum (Palace Exhibition Area) will invite participants to create lanterns and celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with their craftsmanship, and the Southern Han Mausoleums Museum will take participants on a journey through Guangzhou's history on celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival.

The Sanyuanli Anti-British Invasion Museum will organize a DIY activity where participants weave bamboo into Ping'an buckles. The Guangdong Revolutionary History Museum will conduct a Mid-Autumn handmade lantern DIY activity, and the Guangdong Museum of Folk Arts will debut a pottery experience that allows participants to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival through the art of pottery on the first day of the holiday. The Guangzhou Thirteen Hongs Museum will offer a traditional lantern-making experience activity, and the memorial hall of the Huangpu Military Academy former site will host a Mid-Autumn-themed experience event.

Exploring the countryside for poetic delights

During the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, numerous popular rural tourism spots will introduce themed activities.

Guangzhou Liuxihe National Forest Park will present an ancient-style lantern riddles wall and hold a lantern-riddle-guessing activity. Guangzhou Shimen National Forest Park will set up a lantern riddle interaction area and offer a lantern DIY activity to inherit the culture. At Maofeng Mountain, residents and tourists are invited to guess lantern riddles, admire the charming night lights of the rabbit, create round fans, and take memorable photos amidst nature.

In Jin'ou Square, Conghua District, daily events such as the Conghua Fire Show and Mid-Autumn Festival Garden Party will be held, showcasing intangible cultural heritage performances like iron flower striking, fire pot displays, flying fire phoenix, light and shadow shows, and riddle guessing on the lantern wall.

In Huadu District, tourists can indulge in snow at Bonski of Guangzhou Sunac Land, experiencing a special Chinese-style ice and snow party. The 75,000 square meter snow-playing area, with its snowfall, creates a dreamy winter wonderland. The entertainment snow area offers seven major projects, including ice bumper cars, ice slides, and adventure trails, as well as a -6°C"Moon Palace" fantasy scene. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, there will also be interactive photo opportunities with Chinese-style NPCs and the parade of Chang'e and Jade Rabbit.

Brilliant performances grace the stage

The Mid-Autumn Festival will see captivating performances gracing the stages in Guangzhou.

The Children's Drama Carnival will take place at the Guangzhou Opera House, featuring the youth original music drama "The Book of Songs", the sixth masterpiece of the "Ancient Books and Me" series carefully created by the QFun Theater children's experimental theater troupe.

At Guangdong Friendship Theater, WetMen's Russian stylish guy water dance drama "Show in the Rain" will be performed on September 14th-15th. This show has been honored as the "Best Performance Project in Russia" for three consecutive years.

On September 14th, the Xinghai Concert Hall will present the "Bay Area Resonance 'Du and Shen' Double Piano and Percussion Concert", inviting music enthusiasts to immerse themselves in a musical dreamscape. Throughout the holiday, there will also be a Classic Reproduction and Film Score Symphony Concert, and a Classic Anime Works Candlelight Concert. In addition, Grandview Theatre will present the Mahua Fun Age's stage play "Flying Lies" daily during the holiday.

Wonderful performances will also extend from the stage to schools and scenic spots. The 2024 Guangzhou Opera into Campus Public Welfare Performance will visit Xiaolong Primary School in Shiqi Town, Panyu District on September 14th. On September 17th and 19th, the Guangzhou Acrobatic Arts Theater will send the acrobatic theme comprehensive evening party to the cruise ship in Shenzhen Port to enrich the cultural experience of tourists during the festival.

The Cantonese opera "Water Village Love Story" live performance, "Lv Bu and Diao Chan", and "Nine Treasures Lotus" by the Guangdong Yueju Opera Theater will also enter the Dongchong Custom Street in Water Village in Nansha District, Guangzhou, and Yongkou Village, Houjie, Dongguan before the holiday, showcasing the beauty of Lingnan culture and Lingnan water town through live performances.
