On August 4, the maximum temperature at Guangdong's national meteorological stations surpassed 39°C, while a station in Guangzhou recorded an astonishing 42.6°C, underscoring the severity of the current heatwave.

In addition to the sweltering heat, localized severe convective weather has also emerged in some counties and cities in eastern Guangdong. The Guangdong Provincial Meteorological Bureau issued a warning on August 4, urging the public to brace for extreme heat and potential localized thunderstorms.

Responding to the escalating situation, the Guangzhou Meteorological Observatory monitored conditions that met the criteria for initiating a Level III Emergency Response for meteorological disasters (heatwave). Consequently, the City's Meteorological Disaster Emergency Headquarters decided to upgrade the city's heatwave emergency response from Level IV to Level III, effective from 7:58 am on August 5.

As of 8:30 am on August 5, nine districts of Guangzhou, excluding Nansha and Conghua, have upgraded their heat warnings to Orange Alert, indicating a severe heatwave condition.

Forecasts indicate that under the continuous influence of the subtropical high, Guangzhou will experience sunny to partly cloudy skies from August 5 to 9, accompanied by intense heat, with maximum temperatures reaching 36°C to 38°C. Notably, localized showers in the eastern and southern regions can occur on August 6 and 7.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions against the extreme heat, including staying hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight during the hottest parts of the day, and seeking air-conditioned shelters when possible.
