A high-speed railway linking Meizhou city and Longchuan county in eastern Guangdong province has entered the trial operation phase. The line is set to begin operation in September.

The nearly 94-kilometer line is designed for a running speed of 350 km per hour, helping cut the travel time from Meizhou to cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to around two hours, according to China Railway Guangzhou Group.

The line adds to the high-speed passenger transport corridor connecting the eastern part of Guangdong with central and northern China.

Trials related to passenger boarding and alighting, information services and disaster prevention have already been passed.

"The project is now ready to enter the trial operation phase," said Wu Huan, general manager of Meizhou-Longchuan Railway Company affiliated with the Guangdong Provincial Railway Construction Investment Group.

As part of the high-speed railway between Longyan city of Fujian province and Longchuan in Guangdong, the Meizhou-Longchuan line also serves as a vital channel linking the Yangtze River Delta with the Pearl River Delta regions.
