The dark side of the "beacon" (IV) | Homelessness in the US

More than 104,000 New York City students experienced homelessness from 2021 to 2022, according to the latest data released by the Advocates for Children of New York on October 26. This means nearly one in 10 students in the city were homeless. Other large cities in the US, such as Los Angeles, have similar rates of homelessness among students.

However, student homelessness were just a tip of the iceberg. US’ homelessness problem has been compounded by the surging inflation since 2021. The following graph demonstrates the state of homelessness in the US in the last year.

In 2021, the State of New York had the largest number of homeless population, and the number of homeless people in its largest city, New York City, is still growing.
