Recommended places to climb mountains during the Double Ninth Festival

The Double Ninth Festival, also known as Chongyang Festival, falls on the ninth day of the ninth Chinese lunar month, which is October 14 this year, and is a day to pay respect to seniors in China. It is also customary to climb a mountain or other high places to celebrate this traditional Chinese festival.

The alert for Typhoon Chanthu is lifted today, and Guangzhou arranges 9 public climbing places for the festival, including Baiyun Mountain, Yuexiu Hill, Canton Tower, Huolu Mountain, temple scenic area of the Hat peak mountain forest park, Danshuikeng Scenic Area, Longtoushan Forest Park, Lotus Mountain, and Tianhou Palace.

Here are some recommended places and tips for you to celebrate the festival with your family in Guangzhou.

Baiyun Mountain (白云山)

Baiyun Mountain is one of the most notable mountains in Guangzhou. In addition to the regular hiking route, you can also take the cable car with your family and enjoy the different scenery.

Opening hours: All day (from 6 am on October 13 to 4 am on October 15)

Ticket: 10 RMB (from 6 am on October 13 to 4 am on October 15)

Transportation: Take Bus No.24, 285, B16 or Tourist bus Line 1 and get off at Yuntai Garden Bus Terminal(云台花园总站). 

Attention: Bus No.63 and No.245 will not stop at Yuntai Garden (云台花园站) temporarily from 17:00 on October 13. 

Seven special night bus lines set up for the Double Ninth Festival will be opened from 22:00 on October 13 to 02:00 on October 14, including "Yuntai Garden to Zhongshan 5 Lu (云台花园至中山五路)", "Yuntai Garden to Zede Garden (云台花园至泽德花苑)", "Yuntai Garden to Xinshixu (云台花园至新市墟)", "Yuntai Garden to Dongpu Town (云台花园至东圃镇)", "Yuntai Garden to Xilang (云台花园至西塱)", "Yuntai Garden to Zhongshan 8 Lu (云台花园至中山八路)" and "Yuntai Garden to Huangpu Sports Center (云台花园至黄埔体育中心)".

Lotus Mountain (莲花山)

At the Lotus Mountain in Panyu, Guangzhou, you can not only climb the mountain, but also see a Bronze-made Kwan-yin Statue, and many people come here to pray for good fortune. There is also a pagoda named Lotus Pagoda with a history of more than 400 years. Tourists can climb up the pagoda and have a bird's eye view of the magnificent Zhujiang River.

Transportation: Take Guangzhou Metro Line 3 and get off at Shiqiao Station, then take the "Shiqiao - Lotus Mountain" bus to get there. 

The operation time of "Shiqiao - Lotus Mountain" bus on October 13 will be extended from 23:00 pm to 3:30 am on October 14.

Yuexiu Hill (越秀山)

Yuexiu Hill is also a good choice for Guangzhou residents or visitors to climb a mountain and celebrate the Double Ninth Festival. Its grounds now form Guangzhou's Yuexiu Park, which is also a famous tourist attraction in this city.

Liupian Mountain (六片山)

Liupian Mountain goes viral online because of its fresh air and wonderful landscape. A small lake with blue-green and crystal-clear water can be seen clearly from the hillside. Shaped like the drop of a tear, the lake is the so-called "Blue Tear in Guangzhou" popular online community, and it is the most attractive spot of Liupian Mountain.

Guifeng Mountain(桂峰山)

Located in Conghua District, Guangzhou, Guifeng Mountain is 1085 meters above sea level. After every autumn equinox, more than 50 acres of persimmon forest here are full of ripe fruits, which looks like a golden sea from afar.
