The Guangzhou Library received 89 books written by leading Chilean writers such as Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda from the Consulate General of Chile in Guangzhou on the afternoon of February 24. This enhances the cultural exchanges between Guangdong province and Chile. Management team of the library, joined by Chilean Consul General in Guangzhou Rodolfo Montecinos, witnessed the book donation ceremony held at the Multicultural Hall in the library.

"Guangzhou Library is one of the most impressive I've ever seen," Montecinos said. He hopes these books will foster greater understanding and collaboration between the two regions.
Besides giving away books, Chile also eyes at having more exchanges with Guangdong in terms of launching more joint programs, Montecinos pointed out.
According to Montecinos, Zhongshan signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Friendly Cooperation with Chillan of Chile on December 14, 2022. The two sister cities will further promote bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, culture, tourism, education, science and technology.
Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda once won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1945 and 1971 successively. Since the 1960s, the works of the two poets have been translated and published in China, and gained popularity among Chinese readers.
During the ceremony, Chen Ning, a professor from the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, introduced to readers the life stories and representative works of some Chilean poets. She played two special videos. In the video, some students read Mistral's "I am Not Alone" and Neruda's "Heights of Macchu Picchu" in Chinese and Spanish, expressing the emotional resonance across different cultures in poetic language.
