Russian musical "Anna Karenina" to grace Guangzhou stage

From December 7 to 9, the Russian musical adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's novel, "Anna Karenina," will be presented at the Guangzhou Opera House, kicking off the opera house's 2024 New Year Season at the same time.

The script for this musical was penned by renowned Russian poet and playwright Yuliy Kim, delving into topics such as love and death, freedom and fate, faith, family, marriage, desire, and imperial Russian society.

Actors from the Moscow Operetta State Academic Theatre will showcase a dazzling array of figure skating, modern dance, ballet, courtly dance, and Russian folk dance in the musical. With over 40 musical numbers spanning classical, pop, and rock genres, the audience will be treated to an audio-visual feast.

Furthermore, the stage will come alive with nine mobile screens, metal structures, and hundreds of lighting fixtures, creating lifelike settings that transport the audience to a 19th-century opera house, an ice rink, opulent palaces, and summer countryside scenes.
