Today (June 10, 2023) marks the 7th Cultural and Natural Heritage Day. Lion dance, one of the representatives of Cantonese culture, was included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage lists in 2003.
Just like the teenage protagonists in the Chinese animation "I AM WHAT I AM (雄狮少年)", many youngsters in Guangzhou inherit and inject new vigor into this intangible cultural heritage. They frequently perform lion dances in the villages' practice rooms, playgrounds, and ancestral halls while wearing bright costumes, beating drums, and holding "lion heads." This video tells a tale about a group of young people who have an unbreakable bond with the lion dance.
