Exhibition about 'Rediscovery' of iconic cuisine makes its debut in Hong Kong

The Greater Bay Area, encompassing Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, shares a common culinary culture with the same origin, which carries a rich history and profound cultural heritage.

On March 26th, Lingnan Group, in collaboration with Hong Kong New World Development Group, unveiled the cultural exhibition, "Rediscovery" of Iconic Cuisine, at the "Boundless Reverie: Chinese Savoir-Faire and Contemporary Art" exhibition held at K11 MUSEA in Hong Kong. The exhibition was meticulously crafted by the China Hotel. The event also featured the launch ceremony of the exhibition jointly held by Joint Publishing (H.K.).

The brand project "Rediscovery" focuses on the preservation and innovative development of renowned traditional Cantonese delicacies, aiming to recreate the vanished or rarely-seen traditional Cantonese culinary craftsmanship from historical artifacts.

Shared memories of tastes form a unique sense of "nostalgia," as visitors from Hong Kong expressed their admiration for experiencing Guangzhou's traditional culture from the perspective of delectable cuisine, saying that they not only indulged in a visual and taste feast, but also enhanced their senses of identity and cultural confidence as residents of the GBA.

During the exhibition, Lingnan Group will also host several banquet tasting events featuring the "Rediscovery" of Iconic Cuisine in Hong Kong. By reviving classic Cantonese banquets, these events will serve as a bridge to promote the cultural and emotional exchanges between the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao.

It is reported that organizers referred to the ancient recipe collections preserved at the Guangzhou Museum, and conducted research on historical literature and allusions, to recreate the exquisite dishes from the written records, and turn them back into manuscripts again.

Consisting of four chapters: tracing, exploring, seeking and integrating, the book "Rediscovery" leads the readers into the history of Cantonese cuisine, providing multidimensional interpretations of the development of modern society and culinary landscapes in the GBA. As an innovative exploration to enhance regional unity, it has been awarded the "Most Beautiful Book" for 2023 nationwide.

It is also worth mentioning that the collaboration with Joint Publishing (H.K.) brings about the traditional Chinese version, with an aim to further showcase the charm of the GBA to the world. While enabling the public to gain a deeper understanding of Lingnan's culinary culture and distinctive charm, it will also revitalize traditional Cantonese cuisine in the context of inheritance and innovation, giving it new vitality in contemporary society.
