The Historic Centre of Macao was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005. It is a collection of over 20 locations where both Western and Chinese architectural heritage stand together on public squares and in its meandering streets. And Lou Kau Mansion is one of the top picks of the World Heritage Sites in Macao.
Lou Kau Mansion was the residence of Lu Huashao (Lou Kau), a well-accomplished Macanese merchant. This two-story mansion was built in 1889. The mansion has three courtyards, and incorporates Western decor into traditional Chinese buildings. It is a traditional grey-brick courtyard house with the architectural characteristics of a typical Xiguan Chinese residential building.
