ONTIME, GAC Group's ride-hailing platform, has recently been approved to conduct a road test for their Robotaxi in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, another progress following the opening of the island's entire road network for the testing of self-driving vehicles last month.
According to the relevant regulations, driverless cars that complete 1,000 kilometers of road testing within Hengqin can proceed to passenger-carrying demonstration applications under approval. Vehicles that have already obtained passenger-carrying commercial licenses can start commercial operations after completing 1,000 passenger demonstration trips and obtaining approval.
Later this month, ONTIME will begin offering reservation-based test rides, allowing residents in Hengqin to sign up, and the service is expected to enter the commercial operation phase by September.
Meanwhile, since the pilot of the driverless car in Hengqin was launched in 2022, over 350,000 kilometers have been covered by autonomous driving within the island, with more than 30,000 hours of autonomous driving accumulated.
