Hengqin launches summer mangrove wetland study tour

July 26 marks the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem. A summer mangrove wetland study tour was launched in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin last Saturday (July 22).

The first phase of the activity consists of the second training course for Hengqin wetland volunteer ambassadors and a guided tour to the local mangrove forest.

Through the field trip, interactions, and immersive learning, this summer program aims to stimulate young people's reflections on the relationship between human beings and nature.

According to the authorities of the Cooperation Zone, Hengqin is currently actively engaged in wetland restoration and ecological conservation. And it is also carrying out a pilot project to build national wetland parks and other projects involving the protection of biodiversity.

In the future, more volunteer training and educational activities will be launched including bird conservation, mangrove wetland preservation, and the protection of rare plants and animals.

The upcoming activities of the summer study tour will include three themed events: night observation of reptiles, insect observation, and bird watching. The activities will last until August and registration information will be available on the "Hengqin Wetland" (Chinese: 横琴湿地) official WeChat account. Stay tuned!
