Guangdong-Macao joint laboratory set for integrated circuit industry in Hengqin

On June 6, the joint laboratory of Zhuhai UM Science & Technology Research Institute (ZUMRI) and Amicro Semiconductor Co Ltd (Amicro) was set up in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.

Focusing on the research and application of integrated circuits (IC) and robotics, the laboratory will become a demonstration base for the industry-academia collaboration between Guangdong and Macao, and promote the development of the IC industry and microelectronics industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

In recent years, Hengqin has developed a preliminary industrial cluster featuring outstanding IC design. As of 2022, over 40 IC enterprises are operating in the cooperation zone, and the revenue of IC enterprises above the scale has exceeded 2.6 billion RMB.

Zhang Ge, Deputy Director of the Economic Development Bureau of the Executive Committee of the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, said that this cooperation between university and enterprise could serve the development of industry and cutting-edge technologies in the cooperation zone, and hoped that both sides would make more achievements in Hengqin.

Rui Martins, Vice Rector of the University of Macau, said that through the joint laboratory, Hengqin and Macao will further expand the industry-academia collaboration.
