Zheng Yanxiong, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), said on Tuesday that Hong Kong has completely bid farewell to the lost and confused days, and has ushered in a new chapter.
Zheng made the remarks when delivering a Chinese New Year speech entitled "An Ode to the Pearl of the Orient and Blessing to the Descendants of the Dragon" at the 2024 Spring Reception held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.
Zheng extended three best wishes associated with the dragon to Hong Kong and its residents. He wishes Hong Kong a dynamic Year of the Dragon, in which reform bears fruit and economy prospers, an auspicious Year of the Dragon, in which peace prevails and industries flourish, and a vigorous Year of the Dragon, in which vitality blooms and culture thrives.
In his speech, John Lee, chief executive of the HKSAR, introduced key tasks of the HKSAR government in the Year of the Dragon: to complete the legislation of Article 23 of the Basic Law of the HKSAR as soon as possible and to promote economic development and continue to improve the lives of the residents, Lee said.
Lee said Hong Kong is the Pearl of the East, and will shine brilliantly in the Year of the Dragon.
