“China's plan for future development has been under global spotlight, especially among the Southeast Asian countries because our ties with China has been strengthened through initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative and the Global Development Initiative,” said Jusuf Wanandi, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees Centre for Strategic and International Studies Foundation (CSIS).
He highlighted that there are two big takeaways from the report delivered by Xi Jinping to the 20th National Congress which is considered as an major political event that defines the visions for China's future.
"First, China is taking a steady approach on everything from economic to security policies and committed to narrowing the North-South gap, supporting and assisting other developing countries in accelerating development. Those issues paramount to today's world are affecting Chinese strategic thinking. The second biggest takeaway is the proposal of advancing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization. It clearly points out that path that China, the world's most populous country, chooses to take towards modernization and national rejuvenation, " said Wanandi on Understanding China·Greater Bay Area Dialogue.
He also introduced the project that CSIS will further cooperate with China. "My institute, CSIS in Jakarta, has been working very closely with institutions in Southeast Asian countries and China to continuously improve and strengthen relations between Southeast Asia and China. Our latest project, the ASEAN-China fishing group, started in 2022 and has continued throughout this year. We are working to provide practical inputs and generate ideas on various issues of importance to ASEAN-China relations through this project."
The “Understanding China·Greater Bay Area Dialogue” is in full swing in Guangzhou, south China’s Guangdong province, from April 18 to 20, with the theme of Chinese Modernization and New Opportunities for the World. GDToday is one of the media sponsors of this conference.
