Martin Jacques: China enthuses, involves and mobilizes the people in the country's future

“The task of the Communist Party of China is to achieve a consensus amongst the people on the way forward for the country. It has been remarkably successful in this endeavor. If people are not continuously involved in the political process, they have no real stake in it. Ultimately, the energy, strength and capacity of a democracy depends on the extent to which the people are involved in it. The reason why China has been so successful is because its ability to enthuse, involve and mobilize the people in the political process and thereby contribute to the country's future,” said Martin Jacques, Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University, on Understanding China·Greater Bay Area Dialogue.

The “Understanding China·Greater Bay Area Dialogue” is in full swing in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong province, from April 18 to 20, with the theme of Chinese Modernization and New Opportunities for the World. GDToday is one of the media sponsors of this conference.
