Ticket Giveaways | Musical excursion around International Children’s Day

In your childhood, have you ever wondered about a whimsical world of fairy tales, where the Nutcracker, the Monkey King, Princesses Elsa and Anna, as well as Belle and the Beast lived?

To usher in International Children’s Day, several enjoyable performances for both adults and children will be staged in Guangzhou. Check out the recommendations below and enter a fairy tale world with music. Do not miss out on the ticket giveaways at the end of the article.

Music & dance parent-child theatre The Nutcracker

Based on German writer E.T.A. Hoffmann’s fairy tale The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, the show incorporates the plots of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s classical ballet The Nutcracker, telling an adventure story about friendship, determination, and optimism. Nana meets her friends, the Nutcracker and the Candy Fairy, in her dream world on her birthday night. They set off through the Ice Cream Town, Tanghulu City, Cookie Desert, and the banks of the Honey River to reach the Chocolate Castle. After finding the Flower of Hope, they defeat the Mouse King and save the Land of Sweets.

Bunny White’s colourful musical journey

With melodies like L’Arlésienne Suite, a voice actor will tell the story of the separation and reunion of Bunny White and its best friend, Little Swallow, along with sand paintings. In addition, percussionist Liu Rui will present a musical tour of Guangzhou from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, tea houses and zoos to the Shangxiajiu pedestrian street via interactive sessions.

Concert of golden hits of classic animated films

In this evening, over 40 classic songs from well-known animated films—including FrozenThe Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and Mulan—that have been rearranged into symphonic suites will be performed. Meanwhile, the conductor Wu Jing will explain various interesting musical facts to the children and show them how to appreciate symphonic music and the unique charm of different instruments.

"Der Elefantenpups: Mit dem Zoo-Orchester um die Welt" concert

The “Der Elefantenpups: Mit dem Zoo-Orchester um die Welt” (meaning “Farting Elephant Playing the Bass Horn: Around the World with the Zoo Orchestra”) concert is based on the German picture book of musical enlightenment of the same name. It tells the tale of panda girl Mei Yue, who resides in Germany, receiving an invitation to China, which prompts the Zoo Orchestra to embark on a journey halfway around the world.

Following the footsteps of animals, audiences will enjoy 20 pieces of music from eight countries on three continents, covering African music, Irish music, Spanish music, Middle East music, as well as Chinese music. At the same time, the audience will also feel the atmosphere of mutual help, unity, and love among the animals.

Journey to the West theme concert

This concert will be combined with a storyline. Following a young girl’s adventure in her dream, the audience will “meet” the characters of Journey to the West in special spaces during the concert. The orchestra has prepared a number of Chinese folk music and classic nursery rhymes, such as Dagger Society Suite: Overture, Jasmine Flower, and Heavy Rain.
