The Chinese musical "No Longer Human", based on its namesake novel by Japanese author Osamu Dazai, will be staged at the Guangzhou Opera House from February 23 to 26.

The novel is a semi-autobiographical work depicting Dazai's life, which narrates the life, personal struggles in a morass of contradictions, and self-destruction of the protagonist Oba Yozo from adolescence to middle age. The musical presents Dazai and Yozo's stories in parallel time and space, in a bid to explore a reconciliation with oneself.

This musical stars Chinese pop singer and actor Bai Jugang and musical actor Liam Liu. Leslie Travers, an international set and costume designer based in London, designed the stage set for this production.

Multi-Grammy and Tony Award-nominated American composer Frank Wildhorn composed over 30 songs for the musical, marking the first time he has composed for a Chinese musical. Wildhorn was best known for his musical "Jekyll & Hyde", which ran for four years on Broadway.
