Cafe tour in Guangzhou's Yuexiu: Savoring historic charm

Nestled underneath the historical architecture in Guangzhou's Yuexiu District, some cafes offer more than just a caffeine fix, but also tranquility, breathtaking views, and a taste of local culture for coffee buffs.

As Mother's Day (May 12) approaches, how about considering a stroll with your mom through these historical settings, where the past and present fuse in a delightful cafe culture? Here's a guide to some of the most enchanting spots!

Xing CAFE (醒CAFE): Embracing the scenic beauty of the red-wall Institute

Add.: No.7 Fangcao Street, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou (广州市越秀区芳草街7号)

The Peasant Movement Institute, or Peasant Training School, was based in the Panyu Academy (Confucius Temple), which was built in 1370. Situated just steps away from this historic Institute on Fangcao Street, Xing CAFE is a four-story, traditional Chinese-style cafe. It has a serene courtyard, adorned with bamboo chairs and lush greenery.

Ascend to the rooftop terrace, you can gaze upon the picturesque views of the Peasant Movement Training Institute, where sunlight dances upon red walls and green tiles. Sipping on a hot coffee from the ceramic pot, plus a slice of cake, will help you unwind from the bustling city.

Highway Wang (Dongping Pawnshop Store)Orange jeep coffee booth near the museum

Add.: Dongping Pawnshop, No. 1 Zhongshan Fourth Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou (广州市越秀区中山四路1号东平大押)

Near the Dongping Pawnshop Museum, you will find an orange jeep surrounded by lush bamboo, signaling the location of the Highway Wang coffee shop nearby.

The store features coffee both in the jeep and in a glasshouse, adorned with orange sunshades. A variety of special lattes, including the sugarcane latte and osmanthus latte, are available here. With the aroma of coffee in the air and warm lights strung among the bamboo grove, the cafe creates a unique urban camping vibe.

MOTTLE: Enjoying coffee beneath the Sacred Heart Cathedral

Add.: No.10, Laodong Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou (广州市越秀区劳动路10号)

Adjacent to the Sacred Heart Cathedral, MOTTLE is a cafe nestled within an arcade building, which offers a close-up view of the cathedral against the azure sky from its outdoor balcony.

The old Sacred Heart Cathedral cathedral, hailed as "Notre Dame de Paris in the Far East", will serve as a majestic backdrop as you savor your coffee amid the gentle breeze and golden sunlight.

Barista Cafe: Riverside ambiance for coffee and reading

Add.: 6th Floor, Yuexiu District Children's Library, No. 149 Yanjiang West Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou (广州市越秀区沿江西路149号越秀区少年儿童图书馆六楼)

Barista Cafe is located on the sixth floor of ancient Yong'an Hall, a building built in 1937 beside the Pearl River, and now houses the Yuexiu District Children's Library.

The cafe offers a unique blend of literature and coffee. In addition to reading, here you can also indulge in freshly brewed American coffee, lattes, and pour-over coffee, while enjoying the river breeze and the bustling cityscape from the historic rooftop.
