Broadway musical "The Sound of Music" coming to Guangzhou

One of the most beloved classic musicals, The Sound of Music, is set to grace the stage at the Guangzhou Opera House from January 17 to 22, 2024.

Since its inception in 1959, The Sound of Music has opened the door of music for countless individuals. The story took place in Salzburg, Austria, in 1938. A free-spirited young woman, Maria, became the governess for the seven rebellious children of Captain von Trapp, a retired naval officer who were raising his children with strict military discipline following the death of his wife. Maria's arrival changed the family. Through games, singing, and her playful teaching methods, she won the children's trust and the heart of Captain von Trapp.

Directed by Tony Award-winning director Jack O'Brien, the upcoming production of The Sound of Music premiered in 2015 on Broadway before it began a North American and Asian tour. And the show in Guangzhou will be the first time Chinese mainland audience watches this version of the musical.

With a runtime of 165 minutes, accompanied by a live orchestra, the show will feature 26 iconic songs like "Do-Re-Mi," "Edelweiss," and "The Lonely Goatherd," which have captivated audiences worldwide. With a cast of 30 performers, the production will once again convey the enduring theme of love to the audience in Guangzhou.
