Xinghai Concert Hall celebrates 25th anniversary with star-studded season

June 13 marked the birthday of the well-known Chinese composer Xian Xinghai and the 25th anniversary of the opening of Xinghai Concert Hall which is named after the great musician. As a professional, world-class venue dedicated to musical performances, the concert hall is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a star-studded season and all sorts of event ideas.

A star-studded season

Maestro Long Yu, world-famous conductor Ivan Fischer, Russian pianist Denis Matsuev, Grammy-winner a cappella group King's Singers, and more are among the artists who will appear as part of the Xinghai Concert Hall 25th anniversary season.

In June and July, there will be three grand concerts: Rachmaninoff performed by Russia's flagship orchestra the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, concert version of Wagner's opera "Rheingold" presented by Long Yu conducting the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, and Richard Strauss' masterpiece "Alpine Symphony" by Lin Daye conducting Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra. 

In the second half of the year, conductor Ivan Fischer and Budapest Festival Orchestra, one of the top ten symphony orchestras in the world, as well as conductor Jaap van Zweden and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra will also be present at the Xinghai Concert Hall. 

The season will also boast the return and debuts of a great many top international musicians. Prominent pianists include Alice Sara Ott from Germany, Wang Yuja, Zhang Haochen and Chen Sa from China. Chinese cellist Wang Jian and Greek violinist Leonidas Kavakos will have a solo, while the legendary Borodin Quartet will take the stage at the concert hall for the fourth time. Traditional Chinese musicians such as Feng Mantian and Zhang Weiliang will make traditional culture shine on the stage. Famous organists from China, the Netherlands, Russia, Japan, and the Republic of Korea are going to join the season as well.

Open Day returns with both indoor and outdoor events

In June, the Open Day, a brand campaign launched by the concert hall to invite the public into the venue to feel the charm of music, will return with a number of indoor and outdoor activities. 

During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday from June 17 to 24, an intangible cultural heritage exhibition will be set up at the Xinghai Concert Hall Square. The exhibition will feature dragon boat culture, traditional art, traditional sculpture, traditional food, and traditional medicine, providing audiences with a diverse and immersive interactive experience.

The concert will organize more than 80 public benefit activities every year to offer a high-quality exchange platform and excellent content for music lovers. 

In addition, Xinghai Concert Hall is engaged in producing its own stage works and launching its own album brand THE SOUND OF CONCERT HALL. It has presented the music & dance parent-child theatre The Nutcracker based on German writer E.T.A. Hoffmann's fairy tale The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. At the press conference of the 25th anniversary celebration, it released its first album: Yuan Shen · The Grand Organ of Xinghai Concert Hall from Bach to Messiaen. 

The concert hall has also been dedicated to training young music talents, exploring the possibilities of combining music with different kinds of scenarios, and offering free music service to those in need.
