The 31st Chinese Drama Plum Blossom Award, the country's top honour for opera and drama, was inaugurated at the Guangdong Friendship Theatre on May 8 and will last until May 23.
This is the first time that the Chinese Drama Plum Blossom Award is held jointly with Hong Kong and Macao for the final evaluation. With the main venue in Guangzhou and two satellite venues in Hong Kong and Macao SARs, 17 plays covering more than 10 genres of theatre will be presented to the public.
This is the fourth time that Guangzhou has held the Chinese Drama Plum Blossom Award, with the Cantonese Opera Princess Wencheng as the opening show this year. The award ceremony will be held on the evening of May 21, and 15 artists will be awarded. Audiences will enjoy productions adapted from classic plays of opera, stage plays, and traditional Chinese operas such as Peking Opera, Cantonese Opera, and Kunqu Opera.

Furthermore, 15 performances will be staged in Guangzhou at the Guangzhou Opera House, Guangdong Arts Theatre, Guangdong Friendship Theatre, Guangzhou Beilei Theatre, Hung Sin-nui Opera House, Guangdong Cantonese Opera Arts Center, and the other two will be presented at the Ko Shan Theatre in Hong Kong as well as Macao's Venetian Theatre.
