New trends in cultural tourism during National Day Holiday of China

As the National Day holiday falls, travelers in China are increasingly nourished by the profound cultural heritage. The number of traditional culture scenic spots has grown from 2,230 in 2013 to nearly 4,000 in 2022, with approximately 80% of Grade A tourist attractions integrating various levels of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) projects.

The preservation of Chinese culture paves the way for the prosperity of tourism. During the National Day holiday, widespread ICH inheritance practices were carried out across the country. Nearly a thousand ICH-themed events were held through ICH exhibitions, exchanges, and folk experiences, which not only stimulated related consumption but also promoted local entrepreneurship and employment.

On the evening of October 4th, the box office for new releases during the 2024 National Day holiday (including previews and pre-sales) surpassed 1.5 billion yuan, marking another milestone. With the popularity of movies, the Former Site Museum of Changchun Film Studio in Jilin Province has welcomed a huge number of visitors.

This museum is a film-themed industrial heritage site. During the National Day holiday, immersive experiences like the "Changchun Film NPC" tour and events such as "Movie Car Party: Changchun Film Props Exhibition" are highly favored by tourists. The integration of culture and tourism has revitalized the vitality of the film industry's heritage, providing a feasible path for industrial transformation and upgrading.

In the tranquil nightscape of Suzhou's Humble Administrator's Garden, with its gentle streams, delicate walls, and hanging lanterns, visitors are treated to an elegant Jiangnan ambiance. The "Humble Administrator's Garden Night Tour" provides a serene escape amidst the bustling holiday season. In collaboration with the Suzhou Museum, the garden has also introduced "A Graceful Night Tour in the Humble Administrator's Garden and Suzhou Museum" and "Autumn Sounds" garden events, presenting the cultural heritage of Suzhou in multiple dimensions.

While some seek the novel, others yearn for leisure. Nowadays, Chinese tourism products themed around natural landscapes, folk ICH, and food experiences are becoming increasingly rich, becoming a preferred choice for relaxation for many tourists, especially young visitors. In the Yunshui Chanxin Humanistic Town in Zengcheng, Guangzhou, many tourists experience local ICH olive carving craftsmanship during the holiday.

During the National Day holiday, a group of young people in pursuit of relaxation has flocked to counties and suburban areas. Data from Ctrip.com shows that nearly half of the travelers visiting counties and rural regions during the first three days of the holiday were from the "post-90s" and "post-00s" generations, with many of them coming from cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Guangzhou.
