The Shantou Bay Tunnel, a key part of the railway project from Shantou Station of the Guangzhou-Meizhou-Shantou Railway to Shantou Guangao Port Area, began construction on the morning of March 5.

Undertaken by the China Railway 14th Bureau Group, this Tunnel will have a total length of 9,965m. It is parallel to the Shantou Bay submarine shield tunnel of the Shantou Railway currently under construction.
“The single-hole double-track structure shield section is 2,990 meters and the outer diameter of the segment is 12.9 meters. The starting cover of the shield machine of the project is only 7.84 meters, and the initial ultra shallow construction risk is high. Underpassing lines include gas pipelines, other complex structures and underground pipelines,” said Gao Tongkuang, the chief project engineer.

Since its launching ceremony on January, 24, CRCC 14 has rapidly finished some temporary construction work with high efficiency and quality.
In the future, after the completion of the railway project, it will comprehensively improve the collection and distribution network efficiency of the whole Guangao Port Area, and that between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the West Coast Economic Zone.
