Chinese expert calls for more effective aid for easing tensions between Palestine and Israel

“The ongoing tensions between Palestine and Israel may further escalate and hit a record high,” said Wang Jin, Associate Professor at the Institute of Middle-Eastern Studies, Northwest University, in a recent interview with GDToday.

More than 1,500 people have been killed since the tensions between Palestine and Israel broke out on October 7.

In terms of the differences in this conflict, Wang holds that its abruptness, intensity and casualty are rare to see.

According to Wang, the current conflicts are the result of a breakdown in direct communication between the warring parties and a nearly 60 percent unemployment rate in Gaza, which is experiencing a severe economic downturn.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China published a spokesperson’s remarks on October 8, stating that China is deeply concerned over the current escalation of tensions and violence between Palestine and Israel. We call on relevant parties to remain calm, exercise restraint and immediately end the hostilities to protect civilians and avoid further deterioration of the situation.

Wang held that the escalating tensions may endanger both sides into a serious humanity crisis, and deteriorate the relationship between Israel and other Arabian countries.

“This will also lead to the holding back of the US’ India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) project, where the Saudi-Israel normalization is at the core. The gaps between Western countries which support Israel and Arabian countries will be deepened,” Wang remarked on the possible consequences of the intensifying violence and tensions.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China stressed that the fundamental way out of the conflict lies in implementing the two-state solution and establishing an independent State of Palestine. The international community needs to act with greater urgency, step up input into the Palestine question, facilitate the early resumption of peace talks between Palestine and Israel, and find a way to bring about enduring peace. China will continue to work relentlessly with the international community towards that end.

To better restore peace and stability in the region as soon as possible, Wang analyzed that the international community should appeal louder for peace, offer humanitarian aid, and offer more supplies for people who are suffering from the clash.
