Find Nanshan | Relive the inspiring strength of Shenzhen here!

Boats set sail for fishing from Shekou Port in Nanshan, Shenzhen last week after a three-and-a-half-month summer fishing ban in the South China Sea. Now is a good opportunity to savor fresh seafood with family or friends on Shekou Street.

In addition to tasting seafood, you can also visit some niche places here to learn more about the history of reform and opening up. Have you ever been to any of these places?

Dachan Flour Mill

Built in 1980 and closed in 2010, Dachan Flour Mill has attracted people’s attention with its image of ten giant cylindrical silos, resembling a row of firecrackers. Many young people have probably never tried its products, but it was the first wholly foreign-owned enterprise introduced to Shekou.

Sanyo Factory

Built-in 1982, this place was formerly known as the Sanyo Factory..After renovation, it was renamed Nanhai E-Cool. You may have had coffee here, but you might not know that the first radio in China was made here.

Sea World

You must be familiar with the ship on land. Every evening, Sea World is always brightly lit and bustling with people. It’s China's first international tourist cruise.

The slogan board

A series of speeches were delivered by the late leader Deng Xiaoping, the chief architect of China's reform and opening-up policy, during his inspection tour of southern Wuchang, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and Shanghai in early 1992. In his talks, Deng emphasized that empty talk harms the country, while hard work makes it flourish. This statement left a profound impression and was consequently chosen as a slogan displayed on the board in Shekou, serving to inspire the public in their efforts to build the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and to pursue reform with unwavering determination.

Shekou is a pivotal ground for reform and opening up, as evidenced by numerous historical relics. Start the citywalk here on weekends to relive the inspiring strength of Shenzhen!
