The giant panda cub of Liang Yue was officially named "Wang Shu" here on Sunday, her first birthday. Born weighing just 188 grams, Wang Shu now weighs 36.5 kilograms.

Triggered by Typhoon Maysak, torrential rains battered parts of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, causing floods and other disasters. Rescue teams, firefighters, volunteers and emergency workers raced against time to evacuate stranded residents, deliver relief supplies, restore transport and power networks, and clear debris, as recovery efforts continued across the affected areas.

​A 3,500-meter long tunnel, the Jiangjunling tunnel along the Zhuhai-Zhaoqing high-speed railway, was successfully drilled through on Friday.
