Domestic airlines have lowered the fuel surcharge of domestic routes from June 5. It is the first time they have decreased the charge this year.

The new policy affects tickets issued on or after June 5 for all domestic routes and the domestic part of international routes. Journeys under 800km are now charged RMB 70, whilst journeys over 800km are to be charged RMB 130. The prices have dropped RMB 10 and 20 respectively.

Children under the age of two are exempt from the surcharges. Half-price tickets are charged RMB 30 for journeys under 800 km and RMB 60 for those over.

The drop comes after the surcharges hit their highest level ever on April 5.
