The abandoned plant of the previous mine company was transformed into an open-pit mine museum, which is the first of its kind in Guangdong. The museum takes up about 40,000 square meters, and its main part will be completed in July. The museum will become a platform for Maoming to promote its mine culture and “oil spirit”.

Maoming made full use of its resources, carried a large amount of pond sludge from downtown to the open-pit area for planting trees, and created a planting area of over 4.7 square kilometers. The living environment around the park is being improved by these trees.

The diversion project began in October 2014, and water from Gaozhou Reservoir and Jianjiang River was drawn into the pit lake on March 31 this year. Water quality of the pit lake will meet the standard for industrial and entertainment use in October. Meanwhile, the lake can serve for irrigation and flood prevention. Besides, the lake can be used as a back-up reservoir, to improve the water quality of Xiaodong River, thus to further improve the city environment.
