The dried Pummelo Peel
Listed as one of the top ten medicinal herbs in Guangdong, Exocarpium Citri Grandis, also called Pummelo Peel or Hua Ju Hong, is a rare and valuable, especially good for relieving cough and reducing sputum. It is famous as “the ginseng of South China”.
On May 31, Pummelo Peel got the most votes to become one of the first batch of Lingnan medicinal herbs with legislative protection. Besides, it also passed the check conducted by the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, and has been registered as a Geographical Indication Trademark.
Now Pummelo Peel has become the fourth representative agricultural product protected by law in Maoming, following Gaozhou banana, Gaozhou litchi and Gaozhou longan.

Pummelo Peel is a local special product of Huazhou county-level city. It can be cultivated outside Huazhou but would not grow as well as it is in Huazhou.
In Huazhou’s Pingding Town, many people cultivate Pummelo Peeltrees around their houses. “Every Pummelo Peeltree produces fruits of 20 to 30 kilograms. Purchase price of Pummelo Peelis 70 yuan per kilogram this year. I have 60 trees so I can get over 80 thousands yuan,” Li Kewei said.
