How Guangzhou to lead technology innovation in Pearl River Delta

Guangzhou has set the aim of increasing the research and development funds to 2.7% of GDP in 2017, said Ma Zhengyong, the director of Technology Innovation Committee of Guangzhou, as a part of the Guangdong province’s efforts to build a national innovation demonstration zone in Pearl River Delta.

At the same time, Guangzhou is making preparation for the technology innovation conference, in order to make sure relating policy documents will come out soon.

Recently, the central government has principally approved the application for the national innovation administration zone in Pearl River Delta, with Guangzhou be the leader. The national innovation demonstration zone is the pioneer in the development of self-innovative and hi-tech industry. The ministry of science and technology in China indicated that establishing the national innovation demonstration zone could help to develop the system of scientific innovation further, propel the strategic emerging industries, boost the innovation-driven development, and accelerate the change of economic growth mode in China. Now Zhongguancun area in Beijing, Donghu area in Wuhan, Zhangjiang area in Shanghai, and Shenzhen are on the list.

As the capital of Guangdong province and full of various scientific resources, Guangzhou has its special advantages in self-dependent innovation. However, compared with Shenzhen, Guangzhou needs to go further.
