GDICC reassured belief in sustainable growth of Guangdong

"The success of the consultative conference has reassured us of the possibility to emerge better from the financial crisis and of the belief in the sustainable growth of Guangdong." said Guangdong Governor Huang Huahua at the press conference after the closed-door conference of GDICC 2009 plenary held on Nov 19.

"Guangdong will further its economic restructuring and industrial upgrading to fully regenerate internal strength for economic growth and to make Guangdong one of the most dynamic, vibrant, innovative and pioneering places in China and the world at large." said Governor Huang Huahua.

With the main theme of "Sustaining Guangdong's Development Beyond International Financial Crisis", the advisors and the governors carried out heated discussion at the one-day-long meeting concerning the topics of "Promoting Industrial Restructuring: Orientation and Approaches", "Building the PRD Metropolis: Mode and Mechanism" and "Creating a Sound Environment for International Business Operation ".

Guangdong Governor Huang Huahua announced major achievements at the press conference after the closed-door conference of GDICC 2009 plenary held on Nov 19.

Guangdong Governor Huang Huahua said they have achieved following three major results in the closed-door conference.

Firstly, the conference increased confidence of the government in emerging better from the financial crisis.

With expertise and global vision, raised many valuable ideas and suggestions from the varied perspectives on how Guangdong should respond to the challenges and seize the opportunities from the financial crisis.

Their ideas and suggestions included: to Build a technology and service oriented manufacturing industry, to develop efficient, clean and renewable energy; to adopt advanced green innovation; to develop green technology and green industry; to apply a massive customization business model; to win by designs and to promote industry upgrade by designs; to build a functional network in the metropolis that features both cities and areas; to create 4 major platforms for the innovation of pharmaceutical technology; to promote technical standardization by the application of and integration with world standards; to set up the IPR management plan, promote new ideas and new technologies; to increase the public acceptance of nuclear power utilization with a view to forging a nuclear power industrial chain; to expand financial services and reorganize the industry; to set up a challenge and risk management mechanism with a view to sustaining Guangdong's economy growth; to explore cooperation model between Chinese and Japanese corporations in a third country; and to set up a R&D system that integrates government agencies, manufacturers and researchers.

Secondly, the conference renewed the friendship.

The advisors have been very open to the government in sharing their countermeasures against the financial crisis and their strategy for sustainable growth. It fully demonstrates how much they care for and would do to support the sustainability of Guangdong鈥檚 growth. Meanwhile, the government took the chance to brief the advisors on the stimulus package which has taken in response to the financial crisis as well as the province's vision and plan for sustainable growth.

Thirdly, the conference further consolidates the foundation for cooperation and promises increasing joint work.

Over the meeting, multiple advisors have expressed their wishes to further cooperation with Guangdong. For example, besides its solar cell R&D cooperation with Guangzhou Energy Research Institute, besides the new South China headquarter and the coming Asia Pacific procurement center for home appliance, GE expressed also an interest to co-work with Guangdong in clean energy, power transmission, water treatment, energy efficiency for industry and construction, aerospace, healthcare, finance, media and training. In addition to Siemens' EHV transformer project in Guangdong, which means we will be able to make for the first time our own 800 KV DC transformers here, Siemens told us they would also like to work closely with Guangdong in energy efficiency, waste and disposal treatment, rail transit, power generation and transmission equipments and healthcare. Fujitsu will open its first China mainland data processing center in Nanhai district, Foshan city. Autodesk is ready to sign cooperation MOU with Guangdong Economy and Information Committee. Later we will also see the signing of MOUs by Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft with China Electronics Science Institute and with Guangdong Technology Study and Development Center. Just to mention a few.

 

Governor Huang Huahua: Guangdong's GDP to reach 9% this year

"Guangdong's GDP is expected to reach 9% by the end of this year", said Governor Huang Huahua at the press conference of GDICC 2009.

Guangdong has already adopted six measures to tackle financial crisis:

First, increase asset investment and stimulate consumption;

Second, stabilize trade import and export;

Third, promote innovation and boost industry structure upgrading;

Fourth, support SMEs with a series of favorable taxation programs;

Fifth, better life of people, focusing on the employment of college students and migrant workers;

Sixth, deepen the reform and development of Guangdong.

Thanks to the effective measures taken by Guangdong province, Guangdong's economy has seen signs of recovery. In the first quarter of this year, Guangdong's GDP growth was 5.8%, 0.3% lower than that of the national growth rate, but in the third quarters, Guangdong witness a growth of 8.6%, nearly 1 percent higher than that of the national average rate.

Fujitsu to open its 1st China mainland data processing center in Foshan

The press conference reveals that Fujitsu will open its first China mainland data processing center in Nanhai district of Foshan city.

"The reason for choosing Foshan was that I was confident of Guangdong's economic development and the economic polices adopted by the government", said Mr. Michiyoshi Mazuka, Chairman & President of Fujitsu Limited.

He also said that he is impressed by the ambition and commitment of Nanhai district.
