A ceremony was held in a redecorated workshop in Liwan District for the establishment of an innovation enterprise which has attracted lots of overseas talent engaged in the comic and animation industry from South Britain who have enjoyed world fame in this field and have also participated in the making of the world famous cartoons including Jurassic Park and Mulan. The enterprise was expected to create Guangzhou's first 3D cartoon in 2009 and get access to the international comic & animation market. Meanwhile, Liwan District has put forward planning for its innovation industry, aiming at building five innovation bases within the following three to eight years.
Located at No 134, Xi Hu Lu of Liwan District, the three buildings that used to belong to Huhui Electric Torch Company have been turned into modern office buildings. "Since Guangzhou has adjusted its layout of the secondary and the tertiary industries, Huhui Electric Torch Company has been moved to the suburbs in Baiyun District. Therefore, its former workshops have been changed into an innovation base." said Liu Bin, Director of the Production Promotion Center of Liwan District.
The enterprise, jointly established by the Production Promotion Center of Liwan District and Guangzhou Ouhua Animation Technology Co., Ltd, is making a 3D cartoon named 36 Stratagem Tea House. Set in Liwan District, the 104-series cartoon movie, the first one in Guangzhou, was scheduled to be finished by the end of 2009.
As a part of the planning for the development of the innovation industry, the enterprise was just one of those innovation bases to be built in the following three to eight years which include a riverside cultural innovation zone, Guangzhou design port, Shamian international research and development headquarters, Tatansha exhibition center and innovation science park for medium/small-sized enterprises, said Zhao Biqiang, Director of the Bureau of Science and Technology of Liwan District.
To take the 2.4-kilometer-long riverside cultural innovation zone as an example, it covers 1.2 million square meters from Xiashiyong in the west to Shachongyong in the east and from Fangcun Avenue in the south to the Pearl River in the north. According to the adjustment of the layout of the secondary and tertiary industries, over ten enterprises with workshops, warehouses and wharfs of over 500 thousand square meters would be re-planned.
