Guangzhou City recently won the laurel of "National Forest City"! On the morning of November 17th, the 5th China Urban Forest Forum was ceremoniously held at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Conference Center, which was sponsored by the Organizing Committee of Caring Forest Activities, the State Forestry Administration, the Guangdong Provincial Government, and the Economic Daily and undertaken by the Guangzhou Municipal Government. City mayors or mayoral representatives from over 130 domestic cities and city mayors or envoys from 23 foreign countries also attended the ceremony.

Mayor Zhang Guangning said that Guangzhou was honored to undertake the 5th China Urban Forest Forum and very much appreciated such a precious learning opportunity.

He pointed out that in recent years, Guangzhou stuck to the policy of scientific development and environment first, took the forest construction as a stepping stone to build Guangzhou into an ecological city, explored and practiced the new model of integrating the urban economic construction and ecological construction for metropolitans in a manner of coordinated and harmonious development, effectively improved the environment, people's living quality as well as the continual development capability and realized the target of creating a "National Forest City". Guangzhou's success cannot be separated from the care and support from the various leaders at the State and provincial levels, the various authorities, experts and all the distinguished guests. However, creating a "National Forest City" is only the starting point. Guangzhou would further perform the scientific development view, place the urban forest construction at a more outstanding position more willingly, unremittingly handle the work and make it a great cause in improving people's living and increasing their wellbeing.
