The 2nd Maritime Silk Road Expo is open today in the manufacturing city Dongguan. Yesterday (Oct 28), Dongguan Mayor Yuan Baocheng met the press corps of "Maritime Silk Road Expo in the eyes of media along MSR countries" and expressed Dongguan’s willingness to embrace more international cooperation on economy, trade and culture.
About the "shut-down" wave
As a city famous for its manufacturing, "shut-down" wave has raised increasing public concerns since this year. Yuan Baocheng responded that it is natural that some enterprises thrive, while some were shut down. "The economy is like human being, it's natural to have cough."
"Despite that there are shut-down enterprises, new foreign investment projects and funds are increasing", Yuan listed a series of figures to explain the issue, "In the first nine months this year, 267 foreign-funded enterprises involved 360 million US dollars have been shut down. But at the same period of time, Dongguan embraced 385 new foreign investment projects, with a total budget of 3.85 billion US dollars, with a year-on-year growth of 17.7%".
Compared the lagging world economy, these figures show Dongguan's enterprises and industry have a beyond average overall performance.
