On 18th December, the lighting ceremony of the 2014 Dongguan (Changping) International Lighting Fair was held in Changping Yinxian Resort.

As an important part of "Happy Changping" series of activities, the Festival will help promote Dongguan's image and enhance tourism and cultural values for the city.

With a total investment approaching 10 million RMB, it is by far the largest traditional Chinese lantern event held in Dongguan's coastal areas and will feature rich activities coupled with deepest cultural connotations. There are a total of 40 groups of lamps divided into five chapters including "The Rising Year of Horse", "Praying for Peace in the Oriental Buddhist Temple", "Dongguan, the City of Charm and Vibrancy", "Happy Childhood", and "Harmonious Love". The Festival has chosen to combine traditional lighting systems with modern science and technology to present Dongguan’s colourful folk scenery and history of customs. The approach presents lighting movements controlled by LED computer chips, audio sensitive electronic controls, and electronic controlled action sequences.

In order to cater to the preferences of different ages in the audience, and to meet the needs of different visitors, the organizers have launched a variety of activities and performances during the Festival, such as the "Child Star New Year's Eve Gala" and "The Lantern Festival Party" amongst others. Weekly themed evenings will also be held at the weekends, including garden parties and non-material heritage crafts shows. The cultural activities held during the Festival highlight Lingnan culture, allowing visitors to enjoy a cultural atmosphere while watching the lanterns. This approach hopes to propagate the understanding of Dongguan's unique geography, natural resources, folk customs, plus the local science and technology industries.
