HUNDREDS of unlicensed Internet cafes have recently started popping up in Bao'an District, Shenzhen,聽to cater to school students currently on a two-month-long summer vacation, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday (June 17).
Most of the cafes are located in residential communities that fall outside the scrutiny of the authorities but are conveniently situated for students who don't have plans for the long vacation, the report said.
Many students have been spotted spending many hours playing computer games in the cafes.
A brief investigation by the newspaper showed that there were around 200 Internet cafes in six residential communities in Yousong Subdistrict, four times the number of a month ago. To attract more business in the face of fierce competition, many cafes charge just one yuan per hour, the report said.
