"Meet at Yunshan: The Guangdong Rare and Characteristic Plants Exhibition," a city-garden integration display of the South China National Botanical Garden and a science popularization activity, made its debut at Yuntai Garden in Guangzhou on July 12th.
This three-day event, running from July 12th to 14th, will utilize both the greenhouse and outdoor areas to showcase a variety of new and exceptional plants as well as green ecological technologies through display boards.
The exhibition displays 304 plant species, including 50 rare plants that are under national first-level (24 species) and second-level (26 species) protection, 20 unique local plants, and nearly 150 foliage plants (including varieties). The showcased plants are not only visually striking but also include rare species such as Glyptostrobus pensilis and Parashorea chinensis, which are the national first-level protected plants.
Some plants are on display for the first time, such as a new variety of Paphiopedilum developed by the Guangzhou Institute of Forestry and Landscape Architecture and newly discovered species like the Metapetrocosmea alba and Lagerstroemia stenophylla.
The opening of this rare and characteristic plant exhibition also marked the start of a series of science popularization activities under the city-garden integration system, including the launch ceremony of the "The city-garden integration system and science popularization activity month of National Botanical Garden," the characteristic plant gifting ceremony, and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao children's study tours.
